The femoral artery is a huge artery that runs through your leg. The femoral is so big and bleeds so fast that if it is severed in any way there is little chance for survival. That notion could soon be a thing of the past because of a gel that stops bleeding instantly. Veti-Gel is derived from plant matter and binds on contact with skin cells to stop bleeding in a split second. In a TED presentation last month the gel was shown to stop a simulated bleed that was expelling blood at twice that of the femoral artery in literally seconds—current sutures with applied pressure take up to five minutes.
