On Monday June 9th 2014 solar panels in Germany produced 23.1 GW of electricity– or a little over half of the electricity Germany consumed that day. Germany’s approach to solar is slightly different than what we do in the US. Instead of building massive solar farms common, 90% of solar panels installed in Germany live on top of people’s roofs.  In the last 5 months solar production in Germany has increased 34%. While the base load electricity– one of the hurdles solar has yet to overcome, in Germany is not yet provided by renewables, the 50% provided on June 9th was a milestone and foreshadows the capabilities of solar in the years to come. | Read more on The Local
