Forty peacemakers from all over the world came together in Hilvarenbeek, The Netherlands to share their experience and knowledge about peace building and conflict prevention. They are participants of Masterpeace, one of the fastest growing international peace movements around.
For participants from conflict areas such as Afghanistan, Congo and Egypt, peace is not something to take for granted. Masood Raufi is from Afghanistan and fights daily for women’s rights and equality. “When I think about the future, I want my country to be peaceful and successful. Women are an important part of society, so it is important that they are treated right” Raufi explains.
Since its founding in 2011, 50 Masterpeace clubs have been started across 42 countries. The clubs support local leaders in their work. Most of the participants are young and have lots of new ideas to ensure peace. Art, culture, sports and dialogue are used to make everyone feel included in the peace building process. Masterpeace clubs also mediate conflict resolutions between two fighting parties. September 21 is the International Day of Peace and is a big day for Masterpeace. All the clubs around the world organize big events where they come together to celebrate peace.
