Today’s Solutions: May 09, 2024

Fair trade allows farmers in developing countries to grow out of poverty by guaranteeing at least a fair minimum price for their product. Without fair trade it can be difficult for farmers to compete in the global marketplace while still making a decent wage.

Today half the world lives on less than $2/ day. Without a guaranteed fair trade wage farmers often look to save on production cost, which can perpetuate unsustainable farming methods and also drives price-cutting, keeping millions in poverty. Show your support of the fair trade movement by following the steps below, leave a comment at the bottom of this post and tell us what you’re going to do to help fair trade.

Bring fair trade to your neighborhood

There are dozens of local projects around the US and the world that encourages local vendors to sell fair trade goods, and local farmers to comply with fair trade’s standards. Get involved in your local community today.

Show your support and spread the word about fair trade

Getting the word out about fair trade and its positive impact globally is one of the most helpful things you can do. Don’t just encourage your friends and relatives to buy fair trade, explain to them the benefits of buying fair trade, and how it helps farmers in developing countries.

Donate to the fair trade movement

The fair trade movement is ongoing and needs your support. You can donate to the Fairtrade foundation, in an attempt to be as transparent as possible the Fair trade foundation discloses how their donated money is spent.

The best and easiest way to support Fair Trade is every day at your grocery store. Fair trade products might cost a little more, but those pennies are like votes– saying that you want to live in a world where everyone is paid fairly for the work they do.
