In many schools in India children have no desks, so they have to sit and write on the floor during class, causing back pain, poor handwriting, and an environment not conducive to learning. Aarambh, an NGO based out of New Bombay, takes cardboard donated from businesses around New Bombay and creates bags and desks out of them.
The bag– desk hybrid, called the Help Desk, is made out of completely recycled cardboard. The cardboard is collected from around New Bombay, then delivered to a factory where a stencil is punched into the cardboard pieces. The stencil makes a perforation in the cardboard making it easy to fold into both a desk and a bag. Each Help Desk costs 20 cents to produce. | Learn more about Aarambh’s initiative on Springwise
