Today’s Solutions: December 05, 2025

According to the United Nations, the Millennium Development Goals have driven “the most successful anti-poverty movement in history.” In the final assessment report of the goals, it became clear that the world has reduced the number of people living on less than $1.25 a day from 1.9 billion in 1990 to 836 million in 2015. This means the goals helped to lift more than one billion people out of extreme poverty. Between 1990 and 2015, the proportion of undernourished people also fell from 23.3% to 12.9%. UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said that the goals improved conditions for millions more around the world, but he also stated it will take more to ensure the poorest and most vulnerable people are not left behind. The UN member states are currently discussing a new set of goals that could transform the world by 2030.
