The European Union was expected to ban certain halogen bulbs from sale as of next year. But earlier this year the ban was delayed until 2018. So what’s a company to do that recognizes that customers are ready for the super-efficient LED technology? Well, Ikea has taken the lead by declaring to stop selling halogen and ‘energy-saving’ compact fluorescent bulbs from next month, when it switches all its lighting sold globally to LEDs. Steve Howard, Ikea’s chief sustainability officer, says, “If you can produce a product that can last 25-30 times longer and save you 85% of the energy and have fantastic light quality, then that’s the right thing for the customer.”
