Cochin International Airport in the Indian state of Kerala this week became the first airport in the world that completely operates on solar power. The airport is connected to its own solar power plant on a near cargo complex, which is comprised of more than 46,000 solar panels, placed across 45 acres of land. The airport’s solar facilities are expected to reduce 300,000 tons of carbon emissions over the next 25 years, according to a statement from the airport’s parent company, Cochin International Airport Limited.
