Today’s Solutions: May 06, 2024

The European Union is on track towards overachieving its 2020 target for reducing greenhouse emissions by 20%, according to a report published by the European Environment Agency (EEA). Emissions in Europe decreased by 23% between 1990 and 2014 and reached the lowest levels on record. Projections show that a 25% reduction is possible in 2020. The report does note that 2014 was unusually warm year, which lowered energy demand and contributed to a further emission reduction. And progress is slowing, Europe is greening its economy at a slower pace. To achieve the 2030 goals, like a 40% emission reduction and a greater share of renewables in the energy mix, a lot of work still needs to be done. But for 2020, the EU is on track towards the greenhouse gas target.
