A couple years ago Mexico usurped the US and is now the most obese nation on the planet. With that, the government raised taxes on sodas, but now they have a more creative approach to getting their citizens to exercise. Mexican officials are installing motion sensitive machines in various train stations that give away a free train ticket when a rider completes ten squats. While it might seem funny, studies have shown that monetary incentives do help people lose weight. Ten squats isn’t much, and won’t burn many calories, but hopefully it will get people to start thinking more about physical activity.
