Starbucks has announced it will spend millions to subsidize housing for thousands of its workers in China. The coffee giant has already been adding serious benefits for its employees from subsidizing college tuition and raising pay in the US to loans for rent deposits in the UK, and now many workers in the retail sector of China can expect some assistance to help provide housing. The housing program is set to help full-time staffers, meaning 7,000 employees qualify immediately, with another 3,000 eligible in the near future. The deal will provide these full-time employees with “well more” than half of the cost of housing, and it will allow employees to pick the housing of their choice. Especially at a time where a lot of people are migrating into bigger cities where rent and cost of living is higher, it’s a great thing to see Starbucks giving them the opportunity to live better.
