Today’s Solutions: April 29, 2024

Food waste is one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gasses in landfills. Our throwaway society can convince you to throw away countless pounds of food, but here are a few items that can live past their expiration date. Eggs are fine to eat often far past their expiration date. If there’s any question do the float test—put an egg in warm water, if it floats it’s rotten. Old bread is still edible, just cut off the mold if there is any. Sometime honey and olive oil will crystalize. It might look strange but it’s fine. Heating up the honey or oil will restore its viscous wonder. The point is to use foods up to the time where you know they’re bad, not until a small number printed on the label tells you to toss them out.
