Work meetings are so serious, boring, and mundane. Most of us don’t like them for those very reasons but a new study found that meetings that were the opposite—funny and full of laughter—catalyzed better, more creative ideas. The first study to look at the psychology of humor in meetings examined 53 professional team meetings and discovered when all members of the meeting laughed and were encouraged to laugh they were more engaged, offered better feedback, asked more questions and were more encouraging of others. While obviously the context of a meeting plays a large roll in this, laughter isn’t always appropriate, it is a great way to lighten up a stiff room and get the creativity flowing.
