Today’s Solutions: December 14, 2025

Innovations in renewable technologies are made regularly but many are proof-of-concept models, and aren’t commercially viable or scalable. A new type of race is being planned to push many of these new technologies through the prototype phase and into the hands and homes of consumers around the world. The race is inspired by the story of Jules Verne: 80 days to get around the world using only renewable energy sources. The people behind the race believe that if a company can make a vehicle to circumnavigate the globe in 80 days, then the project is essentially ready for primetime. The race is still very much in its planning phase, but race organizers have challenged Bill Gates, Oracle’s Larry Ellison, and GoPro’s Nick Woodman to put their hat in the ring and make a clean energy vehicle that can make it from Manila to Mumbai the long way, without fossil fuels.
