Global investment in solar energy has been soaring while the cost of solar has been tumbling, yet we barely have scratched the surface of what’s possible. A German development of 52 homes and some commercial buildings that was built over the past decade near Freiburg, currently generated four times as much energy through its roof solar panels as it consumes. The buildings are obviously perfectly weatherized and otherwise designed to minimize energy use. Freiburg, nevertheless, hardly qualifies as a favorite year-round vacation destination for sun worshippers. Just imagine the realm of possibility that is left wide open for solar opportunities everywhere.
