Nowhere is corruption as endemic as in public works, according to Transparency International. One major enabler is the absence of accurate, reliable data. M-App, an app developed by two students from the New School in New York, aims to change that. It recently won joint first prize at the social innovation contest New Challenge. M-App is designed to collect data in real time from workers on site so that each step of a project’s process can be tracked. It is to be put to the test for the first time by the government of Uganda this summer. Could this app be a game changer?
