There’s a lot at stake, not just for the U.S. but for the free world at large. So, what can we do to make the debate more reasonable and constructive? Here’s a simple suggestion that has worked well in sports. When there’s a dispute between players and referees, a replay can resolve the situation. Similarly, it would be a great idea to introduce independent fact-checking in political debates. If one candidate makes an outrageous statement, the facts can be checked at the spot to protect the political discourse.
