The textile of the future may just be synthetic spider silk. Perhaps that seems odd, but it makes sense. Natural spider silk itself is light, elastic, and incredibly strong, and researchers are finding ways to make synthetic versions of it a commercial-scale using natural raw materials that are completely biodegradable. Adidas sees the huge potential of this, and has already created sneakers that are as strong as steel made of the synthetic material. For Adidas, the sneaker is part of a broader push for sustainability, which could just lead more companies to follow in their footsteps.
