Retailers photograph food that is near the expiration date and post it online along with a discount typically ranging from 30 to 70 percent off the regular price. Shoppers looking for discounts then receive alerts via the app when items in their local stores are discounted. The app not only helps shoppers save money, but also reduces food waste and ensures that good food finds hungry people.
