Today’s Solutions: June 17, 2026

We are constantly hearing about there not being enough food to feed the world, but if we changed our perspective on what food is, or what is edible, would there be enough then? Harvard graduates Laura D’Asaro, Rose Wang and Meryl Natow think that changing perspective could help solve the world’s hunger issues. The three Harvard grads invented Chirps– a chip made from beans, rice, and ground crickets. While some of us in the west might be adverse to the idea of eating crickets, 2 billion people around the world eat insects, and compared to conventional farming methods crickets use 1/200th of the water to grow and emit 100X fewer greenhouse gases. Crickets are also a great source of protein, offering 7 grams per bag of Chirps– more than an egg, and 31 grams of protein per 200 calories, which is 9 more grams than beef.
