The 2014 Global Green Economy Index ranked the world’s nations into two lists: what countries are green, and what countries are perceived to be green. While perception is obviously less important than performance, the differences in the two lists are interesting. The US scored 6th on perception, but 28th on performance. Germany was first in perception (4th in performance), and Sweden was first in performance (3rd in perception). Overall European counties did the best on both lists, filling up the first five spots on the perception list, and 4 out of the top 5 places on the performance list.
