Is the eco-friendly car the future of transportation in Africa? Engineering students and innovators in Nigeria, Ghana, Lagos and Uganda have recently come up with prototypes of zero-emission or low-emission vehicles. The Abucar II, a highly fuel-efficient vehicle which was built over five months in Nigeria, will travel to the Netherlands in May to compete in the European leg of this year’s Shell Eco-marathon. In Uganda, the Kiira EV is slated to be commercially available by 2018., and its development team is already working on a solar-powered bus. The race is on!
