Battery technology has long been lagging behind electronics and hardware. Now, can you imagine charging your phone in one minute? And knowing that not only the battery’s life expectancy will outlast your phone’s, but that it poses no fire hazard (unlike lithium-ion batteries) and no threat to the environment (unlike alkaline batteries)? This brand new invention out of Stanford labs is composed of an anode of aluminum and a cathode of graphite, bathed in an ionic liquid containing salt and contained in a flexible pouch. Possibilities abound for various possibilities including wearable technology and electricity storage systems. Is the long-awaited breakthrough in battery technology finally here?
