Cars may be running more and more on cleaner energy sources like battery power and fuel cells, but some say the manufacturing is dirtier than ever. Divergent Microfactories is trying to change that by building what it has labelled “the world’s first 3D-printed supercar.” Founder Kevin Czinger says, “A far greater percentage of a car’s total emissions come from the materials and energy required to manufacture it. How we make cars is actually a much bigger problem than how we fuel our cars.” His solution is in building a 3D-printed aluminum chassis joint. This will weigh 90 percent less than an average car chassis and requires far less material and energy to produce.
