The world has more scrap tires than anyone could possibly know what to do with. In fact, Australia alone has nearly 48 million end-of-life tires sitting in landfills and illegal stockpiles. Many have tried to recycle old tires into different items, but now an Australian startup has figured out how to turn scrap tires into a cleaner fuel. By combining processed scrap tires with diesel, the combination surprisingly enough is a fuel that emits up to 30% less emissions. Plus, the process of doing this creates no emissions. And although you may question whether such a reduction is enough to make a difference, the fact that the process can help cities get rid of end-of-life matter in an environmentally sustainable manner is a step forward at least.
