Although it’s still in its early stages, scientists believe that energy from evaporation is comparable to that of wind and solar power. In fact, they predict that if we were able to harvest evaporation energy from the existing lakes and reservoirs in the US — excluding the Great Lakes in the Midwest — we could generate 70 percent of the total US electrical energy generation in 2015. The true potential in evaporation energy lies in its consistency. Unlike solar or wind, it’s far less dependent on weather, which is one of the main dilemmas of the two main renewable energies.
