At a technology conference in New York, Apple design chief Jony Ive received a very intriguing question. What constitutes “misuse” of an iPhone? To this Ive replied: “constant use.” Some Americans do use their iPhones constantly, with one report showing that users spend 4 hours and 5 minutes on average per day with their devices. This alarming number is a signal of addiction, one that has been shown to negatively affect our physical and mental health. That’s why we must keep in mind what the Apple design chief believes to be true about his products: While iPhones are extremely useful, there’s no need to use them such an extreme amount of time.
