As California officials get set to rewrite the vehicle efficiency standards for the state, automakers are pleading with White House to cooperate. In a letter, automakers told the White House that “climate change is real” and that carmakers “strongly support” continued alignment between federal mileage standards and those set by California. The letter was set by the auto industry’s biggest trade group and looks to stop Trump-led rollback of the ambitious mileage standards set under the Obama administration.
