A few small studies have found mind-altering psychedelics—magic mushrooms and LSD—to show promise in treating mental health disorders like depression, addiction and post-traumatic stress disorder. Often the psychedelics were successful in cases where all other treatments had failed. Now UK researchers are starting the first large trial into whether hallucinogenic drugs could be more effective than a leading antidepressant in the treatment of depression.
