Following a marathon, it is common to see the streets littered with plastic bottles or cups. The London Half Marathon is attempting to make its event more environmentally friendly this year by eliminating plastic bottles and cup distribution to athletes. As a replacement, runners will be handed Ooho pouches for hydration, which are small clear bags made from a seaweed-based membrane that you safely ingest.

Ooho, which has received awards for environmental design, markets their pouches as “Water you can eat!” and hopes their product, which decomposes within 4-6 weeks even if not ingested, will reduce single use plastics, especially at large crowd events.

Read the full article below to learn more about Ooho’s innovative design and how these popular pouches could be available at your next marathon, concert, or parade.
