Today’s Solutions: June 26, 2026

The capital cities of the world need to take a good look at that ambitious goal that Copenhagen is attempting to achieve. By 2025, the Danish capital wants to be carbon neutral by generating more renewable energy than it consumes from fossil fuels. Technologically speaking, Copenhagen has the capability of doing this.

The problem, however, is that there are political barriers in the way as Denmark’s center-right national government refuses to restrict diesel vehicles in the city. Emissions from transportation account for a third of the city’s footprint, so solving this political conundrum is of the utmost importance.

Besides this, Copenhagen is on track to achieve their goal, and while you may think this is just another case of a Nordic country achieving ambitious climate goals thanks to their small populations, think again: the city has a population of nearly 800,000, which is roughly the size of San Francisco.
