Five percent of the world’s cows live in Argentina and, for years, the Argentinians were the world’s biggest beefeaters (a title they have lost to neighboring Uruguay). However, in response to an obesity crisis, life is changing in Argentina and the presidential palace has instituted meat-free Mondays. On that day, the palace will only serve vegan lunches to the 500-plus employees. The Argentinian initiative is part of a wider international trend of governments pushing for lowering meat consumption.
