Scientists have developed a new device that could potentially be used to print new skin directly onto a patient in the future. The device looks a bit like a dispenser for packing tape—but instead of tape, it lays down thin, squishy strips of 3D-printed skin that forms tissue right above the wound. To create the skin, the 3D printer uses a “bio-ink” gel filled with skin cells, collagen, and fibrin, a protein that helps heal wounds.
