The European Union has decided to ban single-use plastics in its member states by 2021 in an effort to reduce marine litter. The ban will include throw-away plastics such as cotton buds, cutlery, plates, straws, and polystyrene cups. In regards to other plastic items, the focus will be on limiting their use and setting clean-up obligations in some cases for manufacturers.
