Today’s Solutions: April 29, 2024

The average American checks their smartphone about 46 times a day. If you’re in a romantic relationship and you’re checking your phone that often, it’s as if your device becomes the third party in the relationship. You don’t want that now, do you? To ensure the digital part of your relationship stays healthy, there are four things you can do. The first one happens to be the simplest: put your phone away when your together with your significant other. Secondly, be careful with what you post on social media. Be on the same page as your partner and avoid posting information online that is better off remaining private. Third, and perhaps the most important of all: set expectations around texting. Some couples like to be in constant contact while others rarely text, but the point is, being explicit about the frequency of your messaging can help to avoid miscommunication. And lastly, beware of micro-cheating. This refers to online actions that toe the line with infidelity. Messaging exes or writing in a flirty way online to others can be perceived badly by your partner because it’s hard to tell what the implications of these digital messages have on the physical world. Here, it’s best to simply set some boundaries between you and your partner about what is acceptable online.
