If you’re looking to buy quality fruits and vegetables, you don’t need to go to the most expensive supermarkets. In a new study, researchers looked at the quality of produce and other healthy food options at discount stores and compared it to that of more expensive supermarkets. What they found is that fruits and vegetables at dollar stores are just as good as what you’d find at a regular grocery store. Discount stores typically have a bad stigma around them, but this study proves there shouldn’t be one at all after finding that produce at discount stores has the same nutritional value. Considering that cost and quality are established barriers to healthy eating, the results of this study could have real implications for nutrition and public health.
