Today’s Solutions: December 08, 2025

Eggs have become more popular as people try to cut down on meat consumption and embrace a more ‘flexitarian’ diet. Unfortunately, this also means more eggs are getting wasted than ever before. People in the UK alone are throwing away 720 million eggs every year – three times more than in 2008. The scale of waste has been blamed on overcautious consumers who think that eggs are unsafe to eat past their best-before date – which isn’t true. In most cases, eggs are actually fine for 2-3 weeks after their best-before date, and there’s even a fun little test you can do at home to check the freshness of your eggs to help cut down on edible food needlessly being binned. It’s called the Good Egg Test, and it can double as a mini science experiment for kids. This video will explain to you everything you need to know about the Good Egg Test.
