For decades, staple food crops in the United States, such as corn, wheat, apples, and citrus have been sprayed with chlorpyrifos – a dangerous pesticide linked to development problems in children and generally known to harm human health, water, and wildlife. Public health advocates have been working to outlaw the pesticide for more than a decade, and in 2017, the EPA was expected to ban the poison but backed down under pressure from the chemical agriculture industry. Now, two years after the EPA failed to act, a federal court has the EPA to take action on the brain-harming pesticide within 90 days. The ruling represents a major win for the future of countless children and the health of millions of farmworkers.
