We’re a culture obsessed with productivity, but are working fast and working smart the same thing? You can hustle your life away in pursuit of making it, but successful leaders and entrepreneurs know that slowing down is required to build the foundation for success.

Slowing down can be the difference between success or failure, between thriving and burning out. According to entrepreneur Andrew Thomas, these are the four reasons slowing down will actually help you achieve success, feel fulfilled in your work, and create a more balanced life.

You’ll have greater clarity

What’s the point of hustling if you’re going in the wrong direction? Too many people work tirelessly at pointless tasks. It’s like running on a treadmill…you’re working, but you’re not going anywhere.

To remedy this, schedule an hour every week to “check-in.” Reflect on your intentions and observe the challenges or opportunities showing up in front of you. Think about what’s working, what isn’t working, and where you can focus your energy next week.

You can’t hustle if you’re dead

Sure, this sounds exaggerated, but if you’re constantly hustling and not taking care of your body, then you’re going to hurt yourself in the long run. Take a look at our article ‘5 Ways to rest for renewed energy levels’ for some tips and tricks in gaining back some energy.

By slowing down, you’ll harness the power of emotion

Those in touch with their emotions are actually better workers. They’re more empathic, more patient, and less reactionary. By slowing down, you will have more time to reflect on how you feel, understand your emotions, and let them guide you to a healthy response.

You’ll make better decisions

When you slow down and make time for rest and meditation, you lower your baseline for mental stress. When your mind isn’t racing, it’s free to absorb information, assess the circumstances, and make a good decision.
