In the desert-like climate of Hidalgo, Mexico, a community of quirky, experimental housing has been constructed, with each house built by a different architect or studio. The idea behind the community was to motivate architects to develop new construction techniques, water-saving systems, and sustainable energy sources without surging the cost of the homes.

Each studio used these principles to develop a house suited to one of nine climatic zones across the country, with the long-term intention being that these designs can be rolled out nationwide. All of the homes exhibit’s exceptional sustainability, but each one of them in their own unique way. For instance, while one home is built in the style of a brick church tower and overlooks the experimental village, another sits low to the ground, utilizing stone and egg temper to keep the temperature of the home cool.
