Arbikie Distillery in Angus, Scotland claims to have created the world’s first “climate positive” gin using garden peas. The company’s Nadar Gin avoids more carbon dioxide emissions than it creates per 70cL bottle. According to the company, each bottle has a total carbon footprint of -1.54kg.

The product goes beyond net-zero emissions and achieves its carbon negative status by turning its byproduct into animal feed. After the distilling process, the leftover pea protein and spent yeast are combined to create “pot ale” which can be used to feed animals.

The gin was created after five years of research between Arbikie Distillery and, the Abertay University, and the James Hutton Institute in Scotland.

Nadar Gin demonstrates the potential for climate positive action across all industries and demonstrates what can be achieved when entrepreneurs and scientists team up in the name of helping the planet.
