Today’s Solutions: September 19, 2026

Virtual meetings, brunches, dates, and baby showers have become part of the new normal in the face of COVID-19. If you live in New York State, you can celebrate another age-old tradition online: marriage.

This weekend, New York governor Andrew Cuomo announced that couples in the state who wish to partake in a virtual wedding will now have the legal capacity to do so. “There is now no excuse when the question comes up for marriage. No excuse. You can do it by Zoom. Yes, or No,” the governor said, with a smile.

Cuomo issued the Executive Order on April 18, so couples in the state who don’t want to wait until after the pandemic to seal the deal, can do so in isolation. For all of us, it’s just another reminder that unprecedented times call for novel solutions. For couples who want to keep their wedding dates despite the pandemic, an online ceremony seems to be the way to do it these days.
