Today’s Solutions: December 18, 2025

High-end coat company Canada Goose has pledged to phase out the use of fur in its products. Mainly known for its luxury-priced fur-lined winter jackets, the North American brand has now vowed to stop buying fur by the end of this year and cease manufacturing it by 2022.

Animal rights group Human Society International has hailed the environmentally-friendly decision as a “momentous step in the demise of cruel fur fashion.” The brand has previously been criticized by campaigners for using coyote fur in its parkas.

The move is part of Canada Goose’s broader sustainability strategy, which includes extending the use of sustainable materials as well as low carbon methods of making its coats. Its efforts run alongside those of a number of luxury fashion brands pledging to stop using fur in their clothing. Nordstrom, for example, said it would stop selling skins and furs from exotic animals by the end of this year. Prada and Burberry have also committed to ending the use of fur.

Other efforts reflecting the end of fur in the fashion industry include Israel’s recent decision to become the first country in the world to ban the sale of fur and the closedown of the world’s largest fur auction house.
