Today’s Solutions: May 05, 2024

Breakthrough Covid-19 infections in fully vaccinated adults are causing concern, especially among families who considered themselves safe with inoculation, but a new study from Israel’s health ministry provides further evidence that while the Delta variant is far more contagious, vaccines continue to be the number one protection measure against serious illness.

The study specifically analyzed Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine and found that although it was only 39 percent effective at preventing illness from the Delta variant, it still offers 92 percent protection against hospitalization and 91 percent protection against severe illness.

These findings are based on data from June 20 to July 17. Although a variety of studies have found different specific figures for the chance of protection from new variants, scientists continue to agree across the board that vaccines continue to provide strong protection against severe illness and remain our strongest defense against Covid-19.
