The Delta variant is causing a concerning surge in Covid-19 cases around the world, but one hopeful sign is that it has also prompted the fastest rate of new vaccinations in the US in weeks.

According to vaccine provider Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc, vaccination rates rose by more than 30 percent in states such as Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, and Texas over the past few weeks.

The CDC confirmed this trend with a report that the seven-day average of administered doses was the highest in a month in the US, reaching an average of 662,529 per day.

The rates are not as high as in April when two million people were getting their first shot each day, but if we are able to reach April levels once again, the US would achieve fully vaccinated status in just a month and a half.

The rise in cases once again has prompted many vaccine-hesitant individuals to take the shot. Hopefully, we will continue to see more people choose to get vaccinated for the safety of themselves and others in a truly “better late than never” scenario.
