Sweden and Norway may have the best parental leave in the world—more than a year paid for the mother and father combined. In contrast, U.S. federal law allows women and men to take three months—unpaid. But IBM is adding a new dimension to parental leave in the U.S. The company will launch a program to ship employees’ expressed breast milk home when they’re traveling for work. An IBM employee will be able to use a smartphone app before she travels to say where she will be. Packages will be waiting for her when she arrives at the hotel, and the delivery service will pick them up and deliver them overnight.
