This story is just in time for Valentines Day: A recent study found that eating high to medium leveled flavonol drinks— flavonol is a component of cocoa—improved cognition in elderly. The study was made up of 90 elderly people who showed no signs of cognitive impairment and were given one of three drinks, high in flavonol, medium in flavonol, and low in flavonol for an 8-week period. Researchers found that those who drank the medium to high in flavonol drinks performed better in cognitive tests and mental tasks than the low in flavonol group. So if you need an excuse, other than Valentines Day, to break into a box of chocolates, do it for your brain health, and maybe emotional health too.
