Alzheimer’s sets in when a certain ‘housekeeping’ molecule stops cleaning a protein that builds up in parts of the brain. Now researchers have discovered a different molecule called Brichos that bonds to the proteins that build up on the brain and slows their progression. Brichos wouldn’t be a successful drug because your body would absorb it before it got to work on the brain. Scientists are now looking for a similar molecule that has the same specified programming and could be used as a drug to treat Alzheimer’s.
