The placement of offshore wind turbines isn’t done all willy-nilly, but rather with data that determines exactly where each wind turbine should be placed. In one instance, a project to install hundreds of wind turbines that had been deemed unfeasible was rescued by Vestas wind company company and their mathematically equations. The Danish wind company used data to figure out how to use more powerful turbines for the project, and precisely where to place them. That meant the utility developing the facility could buy fewer turbines to produce the same amount of energy that they had intended to, helping to reduce the costs of the $1.2 billion project. In doing this, Vestas has become a model of efficiency and stability for the renewables industry in a time where oil and gas prices remain volatile.
