Gas exploration is going cold turkey in the Australian state of Victoria. On Tuesday, the state became the first to introduce a permanent ban on all onshore conventional gas exploration, including fracking and coal seam gas. The government said it received more than 1,600 submissions last year opposed to fracking, and acknowledged the risks involved outweighed any potential benefit to Victoria. Well done Victoria, hopefully this move will inspire governments to listen to their constituents more often.
